The Reluctant Astronaut...

Finished a new painting entitled the "Reluctant Astronaut". The 8x8 piece is based on the Oyster Toadfish. A camouflaged bottom dweller that sits motionless and waits for it's prey. I love intricate bizarre looking creatures with an interesting story. In 2008 NASA send the fish into space to investigate the effects of microgravity on the development of otolithic organs. Since 1947, over 180 different creatures have been flown into space.

The painting will be shown & available to purchase at Bear & Bird Gallery's "Square Show" opening March 10th.

There are so many non-profit organizations out there; trying to help do this or that. I've seen & even worked with my share of good hearted organizations and those who are just the opposite.
Light Gives Heat is an organization that truly has their heart and goals towards helping others. I've worked with them several times before and I stand by everything they do. That's why I am stoked to share with you guys a major upcoming US tour. LGH will be stopping in a town near you, sharing thier story, the amazing film "Moving On", and much more. To help with funds for this adventure they are trying to raise $100k during the month of February. Every dollar counts. On Friday I had 50 limited edition prints printed at the print shop. I was very impressed with how good they came out. I also wanted to make them available to a wide variety of friends & fans so they will be very buyer friendly. The print is a collaborative print based on a drawing by myself & the added graphic design work of my friend Mike Caldarera. Each print comes signed and numbered and will be available through the online store.

During my last trip out to Colorado I headed over to Grand Junction, CO to work once again with Light Gives Heat. While there I painted a large scale mural in their headquarters. The idea was to use the idea of The Giving Tree, a selfless giver used to help others in need. Yamo Films was kind enough to time-lapse the entire 2 day process. My painting entitled "In the Midst" was recently featured in Relevant Magazine. The image was used in Light Gives Heat's newest advertisement. The issue featured the band Muth Math, Manchester Orchestra, & OkGo as well as Jonah Hill and John Cusack. You can pick up the issue online or at any book store.

The 19"x36" painting was shown at LGH Studios in Colorado and then sold shortly after and shipped out to a client in New Zealand. The idea behind the piece embodies "Hope" to me; Combining the often cold man-made world with the natural world of beauty. Below are several pictures of the painting process. Enjoy...

A Pine Ridge Thanksgiving...

Two weeks ago, myself and several other amazing friends visited Pine Ridge Reservation in South Dakota. Finally sitting down now and looking through some photos I took, it almost feels like I haven't left. The plains, the wind gusts, the kids smiling, and the amazing large gorgeous skies are all still fresh in my mind. Yet grasping the experience through the week we were there is a bit overwhelming...I visited Pine Ridge less then 2 month earlier. So the idea of spending my Thanksgiving with the families of Pine Ridge sounded great. Tuesday before we left we collected bags of blankets from a local school and we boxed dozens of boxes full of fresh produce and non-perishable foods for several families we knew could really use them. Then the next day we headed North for the 6hour Journey through Nebraska to South Dakota.
On Thursday (Thanksgiving) we awoke and started visiting different families in need. All with different yet heartfelt tragic stories. Many trying to get ready for the hard winter months ahead with little firewood and blankets available.

One of our stops was to our friend Bernard's home. While others gathered in his 10x12ft home I climbed a fairly high hilltop. I sat and listened to everything around me. Listening to the quiet desolate land around me and imagining my life if I had to survive or grew up here. Living without electricity or running water. It was one of my favorite & uplifting moments of the trip.

The late afternoon came and we traveled over an hour East to met the Yellowhawk family. There must have been 20people in their home. All smiling, running around, and sharing their stories with us. Stories of death, amazing family history, songs, fishing, and the abundant stars. The most stars I have ever seen. After I got back from the first trip to SD I decided to draw a couple of the elders on the land. Each face has so much character and history within their eyes and skin. On the very first day back I was able to give a portrait drawing, I had worked on, to our friend Gilmore Porcupine. He was very pleased as I was.
Throughout the trip I carried around a canvas painting I started but had the families of Pine Ridge help finish. They'd help by painting leaves on a tree using their fingerprints and signing their names. Just like any other kid, all the kids loved getting thier fingers painted green. Creating our own friend/family tree of SD.

We stopped Friday morning to met the great, great, great grandson Chief Red Cloud. He shared with us his ideas of ways to use renewable resources on the reservation to continue to try and live better. Then we went by the Porcupine families' small 3 room home filled with 12 people. I was greeted right away with an energetic "Patrick!" (Smiling now as I think about it.) I jumped right in with the kids and started making snowflakes, paper mountains, & little paper people.

The day wasn't over as we drove to another section of the reservation. We drove to see our friend Babette, who was featured with her classroom and students on 20/20 with Diane Sawyer. We were surprised when she offered for us to go see her classroom and several of her students from the episode. Trying to learn the Lakota language through kids games and songs was pretty interesting. Meeting several of the single moms and hearing their struggles was eye opening as well. Making me feel grateful once again for all I have.

At the end of the night we decided the tree that had been worked on and painted throughout the trip would be best given to Babette for her classroom. Such an amazing women.
Our final day we traveled back to Bernard's home, where my friend Scott gifted him his first guitar. We tightly squeezed into his home and listened as he began to play. A mini acoustic concert with Bernard, Brad, & Scott. It didn't feel real to see and hear his weathered voice singing in the native language. Such an awesome experience. Afterwards I once again ran up another massive hill to overlook everything and try and not be overwhelmed with it all. Then I was greeted by several good friends on the top of the hill to share the experience.

Our last stop was once again at the Porcupine families' home. Jumping right in again with the drawing and creating. The girls we given several new warm hats which they loved trying on and sharing. I really had a hard time leaving them this trip. Such heartfelt, caring, & creative kids. As usual they made me several pictures to bring back.

We said our "See you laters" to each family and headed back through Nebraska and snow filled Wyoming. Sharing our individual experiences with each other and possible solutions for the future. Too many stories to share, too many emotions to feel, but as always worth every second.

thoughts from today...

I saw an child about age 10 today. He sluggishly stepped out of the back seat of a sleek black Land Rover while wearing new white Nike shoes, an extravagant gold necklace & large watch, and eating a self serve yogurt. He whined to his parents at a high volume how tired he was ... As I witnessed this, these images from where I was last week raced through my mind.

After traveling to Pine Ridge, South Dakota and various other low income and impoverish lands in the past; the reality of what I have experienced usually doesn't hit me until I am back in my own home. These reality checks are welcomed. I just hope each of us are grateful for what we have and are proud of who we are. Step back, close your eyes, sit alone outside, and just listen every now and then. It's pretty amazing.

CO, NE, WY, & SD...

Tomorrow morning at 6am I will be flying out to Colorado. I will be gone for 2 full weeks.

From Denver, CO I will be heading to South Dakota again to work on the Indian Reservation I worked on a month ago. I will be spending my thanksgiving with the kids & families of Pine Ridge Reservation. This trip will be longer and much much colder. I have a large scale art project planned for the kids.

After 5days there I will be heading over to Grand Junction in West Colorado. I will be working again with Light Gives Heat. I will be painting one of the largest murals I have ever done. These 2 weeks will be entirely devoted to enjoying the life I have and sharing my talents with others in return.
PS- Most of this trip I will not have phone or internet service. Thanks.

Painted another live mural for the Tommy Tant Surf Classic. Seeing tons of great friends in my home town is always fun. I painted all day Saturday & a couple hours on Sunday. Finishing the 14 canvas mural painting seen below.
All the pieces were sold to raise funds for scholarships for local kids and for the local food bank. Thanks so much for everyone who stopped by and said hello.

Artist Patrick Maxcy will showcase his talent at this years Tommy Tant. Patrick contributes to the Tommy Tant Scholarship fund each year by volunteering his time and talent for the live mural. A week ago I painted a live mural at a charity event to raise funds for homeless kids from Kenya, Africa. Gabe, a friend of mine, works in Kenya with an organization called Pamoja Charity. Helping street kids in need. The event was full of supporters, tons of food, live music, and fun times. I painted the piece in just over 4hrs. The painting was auctioned off at the end of the night and all the proceeds when to help the kids in need. Great meeting everyone. It was a fun event for a great cause. Enjoy the pictures below...

"In the Midst of Hope" Recap

Several months ago I had the idea to create and organize a major art show to help out a non-profit organization I really believe in. After months of work the show opened to one amazing evening! Over 40 artists from around the globe showing work based on the theme of "hope & love", all to benefit the non-profit organization Light Gives Heat. 300+ people came out for the opening. The evening was full of live music, good food and drinks, smiles, and a great time.

South Dakota...

I recently traveled through Colorado, Wyoming, Nebraska, and up to South Dakota.
Traveling through Nebraska there wasn't much to see until we came upon CarHenge!
Our final destination was Pine Ridge, South Dakota. A Indian Reservation of Dakota and Lakota (Sioux) Native America tribes. Acres and acres of grass lands, small run down trailers and houses. Inside the homes lived amazing families. One small house we visited housed 10+people. The floor boards, wall, windows, furniture, etc were falling apart but the families still were smiling. I sat with a couple of the children on a rock in the dirt and drew with them for an hour or so. A few of the others in the small group of ours worked on rebuilding floorboards and fixing leaking roofs. Later in the day we had a cookout for 30+ people on the reservation, I painted the children's faces, we rode horses, and played basketball. Making connections, sharing stories, and figuring out a possible solution to help those in need. The trip was short but the experience and people I met and connected with will be remembered. I always forget but then I am reminded again that so many things can be accomplished in just one amazing day. To see more pics check out my flickr.

New project/adventure...

I will be flying into Denver, Colorado then driving 6hrs North through Nebraska towards South Dakota. I will be working with an organization there on an Indian Reservation. Creating an art project with a bunch of kids in need on the reservation.
After spending time there I will be driving back to Denver, CO where I'll be flying to Grand Junction, CO. I will be there for a little over a week setting-up the "In the Midst of Hope" art show I have been working on & curating with Light Gives Heat over the past couple months. I will be sure and post more info, process pics, and possible video from the gallery set-up next week!

I am packing my bags and flying out on a new adventure.

Red Bull commissioned painting...

I was commissioned by Red Bull about a month ago to paint a large 6x4ft canvas painting for a legendary pro wakeboarder Parks Bonifay. The piece was to be displayed and presented to him during his Red Bull Roast in front over 2,000 friends & fans at Hard Rock Live.

The piece came in on cables from the ceiling with a black curtain draped over it. Twenty minutes into the roast the curtain was pulled and the painting was revealed. It was pretty amazing to see the crowd and Parks cracking up and loving the framed piece.
Red Bull Toasted featured the guest of honor, Parks, the two time X-Game Gold Medalist winner, celebrity commentator & X-Games host Sal Masakela, celebrity guests including professional skateboarder Ryan Sheckler, stand up comedians Dan Levy and Tammy Pescatelli, and wakeboarding influentials 2007 Rookie of the Year award winner Adam Errington, four-time World Champion Shaun Murray and legend Zane Schwenk.

Surf Expo Mural...

I just got back in town from painting a live mural with the organization Beautiful Feet at the 2011 Surf Expo in Orlando, FL. Three days of non-stop surf, skate, apparel, ocean sports, art, and fun.

The boards were sold to spectators to raise awareness & funds for Beautiful Feet, helping bring shoes to kids in need without any. Before I could finish the mural people were buying the decks and we had to start taking them off the wall early. All the boards were sold and it was an over all success.

This week on Sept 8-10th I will painting a large mural at this years Surf Expo.

The mural will be built of skate decks. An idea I have worked on before during another event. The Surf Expo is held at the Orlando Convention Center. The decks will be sold off to raise funds for kids in need through Beautiful Feet. I have something pretty elaborate planned for this piece. Stop by the Beautiful Feet / Cobian booth # 1363.

... In The Midst of Hope / Patrick Maxcy / Light Gives Heat / Sept 30th ... For the past couple months I have been working on curating a major art show entitle "In the Midst of Hope", to be held in Colorado. The idea to gather some of my favorite artists from around the globe to be part of an amazing benefit show. Spreading the story and raising awareness about the non-profit Light Gives Heat and the people in need in Uganda.

37 Amazing artist have joined in to be a part of this event to be held at LGH Studios. The event will be free to the public. All artwork will be for sale with proceeds benefitting the people of Uganda and the work LGH does. You can purchae work during the show and in our online store at the end of the month.

A few months ago I started work drawing up several shirt designs for Light Gives Heat. Each shirt is based on characters from the film they have been working on entitled "Moving On". Both pieces will be shown at an upcoming group show in Colorado.
The first one of the mini series, I did a couple months ago. Basing the piece on the amazing Oreo Dory fish and the building on a home in Haiti. The second, and newest one is based on the small Atlantic Thread Herring and the building on the slums in parts of India. I am working on several projects at once over the past few weeks. I often get asked the same question, "What inspires you?" Through commissions, the internet, and life I am bombarded with imagery. "Lost At Sea" music video...

In January 2010, I flew to New York to work on some animation for a music video project. I planned out the story board, drew and painted all the characters & creatures; we spent almost 5 full snow filled days working on this short film. But sadly, Due to lack of time and budget, the video was never completed.
The video was being made for the band Owl City. But only a hand full of people ever saw what we did complete.

Now, 16 months later, you can now see what we worked on & some behind the scene shots. Enjoy...

I flew out to Denver, Colorado for a little bit of work, tons of friends, music, and an amazing time! Seriously one of the best trips I have ever been on. I'll briefly fill you in...
The first night I got to see a private practice session from Dispatch in a large arena. Then had some dinner with a bunch of local Denver friends. The next morning I headed up to the mountains to go snowboarding for the first time. I was pretty bad at it. The 12,00ft elev plus the cold ice up in the Arapahoe Basin was no good for this Florida native. That night was the first Dispatch show at Red Rocks Amphitheater. Three nights of 10,000+ fans. Sold Out shows. Having a VIP lounge pass and Backstage pass was pretty amazing. Got to hang a bit with the FloBots one night as well. The Dispatch fans are so passionate about the music. Signing at the top of their lungs and dancing for 3hrs without stopping. An overwhelming experience each night there. I stayed in a house full of 6 other close friends. Every night sharing stories, playing games, painting, writing goofy songs together, watching film footage, making meals, driving around town, going to galleries, running around downtown Denver, etc. I have so many amazing & creative people in my life that I am extremely grateful for! While out in Colorado I will be doing a little painting, seeing tons of amazing friends, going to all three soldout Dispatch shows at Redrocks Amphitheater, and hanging with the fellas.

This past weekend I painted a 6x4ft mural panel during the Never Quit Beach Fest with Beautiful Feet. Thousands of people came out and packed the surrounding area of Jacksonville Beach. The whole Beautiful feet crew was supportive in sharing all the BF info, their goals to help others, & the story behind it all with the public. Thanks to all the people who donated and supported the artwork, each other, and the cause.

I have different art shows this weekend.
During one of them in North Florida, I will be painting a 6x4ft mural with the non-profit organization BeautifulFeet in Jacksonville Beach, FL. The painting will take place during the "Never Quit Beach Fest".

Commissioned work.
I often do commissioned paintings for people. Sometimes it's standard and other times it's a bizarre concept which makes it super fun. I recently was asked to paint Pro BMX RedBull rider Anthony Napolitan as a centaur. He also had to be using his bike frame as a bow & arrow. Haven't heard his reaction yet to the piece but it was fun to work on.
I also had to draw a nice image of a mother & daughter for a client. The image was so simple yet conveyed a lot. Drawing has such a calming affect when I work on a piece.

This past weekend I attended several art shows and events. One of them was the Away in the Woods show at Bear&Bird Gallery. A show inspired by Brother's Grimm tales. The show had a nice turn out and lots of little goodies to snack on. Thanks to all those who came out.

5 different planes in 6 days + 17 & 19 hour days + paint + editing + friends= One amazing week in Grand Junction, Colorado with Light Gives Heat!

Spent a week (not long enough) living in a 5 bedroom house with several amazing people while being surrounded by an epic landscape. Painted a 6x4ft piece for LGH in two days. Got to visit the main headquarters and see the entire LGH operation. Got to see the intense & powerful rough-cut of the film "MovingOn". Even got to give a few suggestions during the long editing process toward the film. Met some extremely friendly Grand Junction people. Got to see snow. Ate some yummy food. Hung out with 2 rad Hansow kids. Climbed & hiked up a beautiful mountain. Sat in the middle of a canyon and listened to everything & nothing.

Heading to Colorado...

I will be leaving this weekend and heading out to Grand Junction, Colorado to work with Light Gives Heat once again. As you may know, I did several shirt designs for thier upcoming line based on the documentary they've been working on called "Moving On." Several of my friends shot the film, are currently editing it, and working on animation aspects during this entire month in Colorado. I've seen little clips along the way and its pretty amazing & moving so far.
I have the privledge of going to live in a house out there for a week with the rest of the editing crew. While they continue to work hard on the film I will be painting a large mural based on the film and the shirt designs I've already done. A rough cut of the film, all the shirts, and the mural will be unveiled at a big event March 23! Pretty excited for this trip and journey with Light Gives Heat.

My first Art College recently contacted me and a few select others to showcase in the Alumni gallery show. I will be showing two pieces for this show at Florida School of the Arts main gallery (shown above). A few articles came out about the show.

"The Florida School of the Arts will hold an opening reception for its 2011 Alumni Art Exhibition at 6 p.m. Saturday in the main gallery located on the Palatka campus of St. Johns River State College. The reception, says gallery director Michael Burban, will provide an opportunity for alumni to reconnect with each other and to interact with current fine art students. The event is free and open to the public.
The show will feature a creative variety of artwork, including acrylic, oil painting, photography and drawing. Each alumnus was encouraged to submit one or two works for the exhibit. Burban said he has received many inquiries in response to the school's announcements for the show. "It is exciting, because our former students are responding from across the state of Florida and beyond."
Alumni who will be exhibiting in the show include Melissa Cooper and Patrick Maxcy. Cooper received her bachelor's degree in elementary education from St. Leo University and is a certified art teacher for grades kindergarten through 12. She has been working on personal commissions and building her portfolio while pursuing a master's degree in educational media design and technology.
After receiving an associate degree in painting and graphic design from Florida School of the Arts, Maxcy ultimately received his bachelor's degree in studio art and painting from Florida Atlantic University. He taught high school for several years before pursuing a career as a full-time artist. Maxcy's work has been featured in several books and magazines, as well as galleries throughout the United States.

A little over a week ago I announced that I was going to be working with an amazing company to design their next line of clothes. Specifically their shirts. I have worked on and help complete two shirts already and there is a lot more to come!

The company/ Organization I'm working with is called Light Gives Heat. Their basic goal is to Empower Africans through encouragement of economic sustainability & creative endeavors. Motivating people in the West to be the change they want to see in the world. And to see people living with hope.I can't wait to share with you the entire new line of shirts that will be released in 2011. Each design and story that come from the people of Uganda is very powerful. I've watched so many videos and seen many images to try and capture their story into one design per shirt. No sneak peeks yet though!

I was asked to show some work for a show again at the C.Emerson Fine Arts Gallery in St. Petersburg, FL. After looking over the idea for the show, I wanted to try and challenge myself and do something I hadn't done in awhile... Drawing people. I wanted to draw and combine several animals juxtaposed with several different female nudes.

I really hope to continue to do several more of these drawings. It was fun to choose specific animals based on each of the females look and personality. Each one is framed 11"x9" and will be available on January 14, 2011 at C.Emerson Fine Arts during the show "Observations of the Feeling of the Beautiful and Sublime" based on Immanuel Kant's 1764 book. My Art Basel Recap highlights:

Wed: Ran around the graffiti murals in Wynwood with Mike C., chatted with Jeff Soto, stopped in at Aqua, chatted a bit with Ekundayo, chatted a bit with Francesco Locastro & met Rocky Grimes at the C. Emerson booth, walked to the beach and watched Metric play a live concert.
Thurs: Checked out the Jonathan Levine Murals. Met a bunch of people.
Fri: Woke up early, checked on the graffiti murals around Wynwood talked to Ron English, saw Shepard Fairey, Met up with Keith Case and went to Scope (amazing), said hello to Adrien Brody, went to Graffiti Gone Global, met & talked to AlexOne from Paris (nice guy).
Sat: Went to Gallery 101 saw some amazing art by Charles Pfahlto, David Bowers, & Andrea Kowch, went the Art Whino party chatted with Ekundayo, AngryWoebots, etc. Went to bed.

Art Basel is upon us. I look forward to this insane epic event every year! Art Basel is the the largest art event in the United States and has been called "The Olympics of the art world". One takes place in Miami and the other main event in Switzerland.

I recently finished a 6x4ft mural for the newest A1A Burrito Work Taco Shop. Each restaurant/shop will be featuring an original mural painted by yours truly. Stop in and get some tasty burritos!

10x10 Installation Recap

10x10 is an installation style art show put on by Kara Walker Tome'.
I rarely do these type of shows but they are so much fun to be a part of.
I first came up with an idea to cover a room with graffiti art. Bringing the outside world to the inside. Collaborating with Mike Caldarera, the simple idea progressed. Our busy schedules gave us only one day to install. With the painting help of several amazing graffiti friends we pieced together our "Graffiti Dream" Installation. The room included all walls to be covered in graffiti, over 300 used spray paint cans, eight milk crates, seven spray painted Televisions (one playing the classic 1983 film "Style Wars"). Over 750 people came out to the show/event in Lake Worth, FL. Other artists did a great job putting in a lot of effort into some amazing installations.

I have been overwhelmed lately with amazing events, news, shows, and interviews these past couple weeks. It has been none stop and this weekend is no different. I will also have a few smaller works for sale.

Tommy Tant Recap...

Tommy Tant Memorial Surf Classic 2010.
Just an amazing 3 days full of friends, love, and helping others in Flagler Beach. I saw many many faces and people I hadn't seen in awhile. It's very overwhelming, especially when you're trying to get a decent mural done. But in the end the art side raised over $1500 for the local food bank and the entire event raised over $40,000! That's more then any year before. More people attended and more money was raised for scholarships. The event started out at a chilly 39degrees and stayed pretty chilly through the weekend, but that didn't stop some amazing surfing, music, art, love, and food fun from happening!

Below are the three murals that we painted live and all auctioned off. Murals painted by Austin England, Patrick Maxcy, & Chris Maslow. Thanks & love to each of the artists for an awesome job! Also congrats and thanks to each of the people who bid and got to take home thier favorite portions of the murals. Flexfit sponsored a huge portion of the art event providing 100+ hats that were painted live and auctioned off during the weekend. I have five different shows coming up in November.
One of them is "Small Stuff 4" at Bear&Bird Gallery.

The idea is to create small works that are affordable to the public. Cool thing is, the minute you buy it, you get to take it home right there. I did two small paintings for the show. It was a bit of a challenge because I never paint small. Both are based off little sketches I did on scrap paper while day dreaming. So if you like what you see go to the show on Nov 21.

"Midnight Madness" Recap

Midnight Madness should just be called "Madness". There were non stop people and things going on everywhere for 15hrs straight! I was extremely exhausted at the end of the day. I started painting about 10am in my roped off tented area. I had the basic idea for what I wanted to do. We decided last minute that the mural should be larger. It ended up being 8ft x 4ft. Below is a time lapse of the entire mural.
Several people bid on the mural and it was auctioned off. The money again going to a good cause- Grind For Life. I met a lot of great people and some rad kids. Even got to see some old friends I haven't seen in awhile. I know there were several pics taken through out the day. If you have any you'd like to share just email me. Thanks a lot guys.

Live mural Painting tomorrow! Oct 15, 2010
I will be painting a 6x4ft mural tomorrow at Island Water Sports's Midnight Madness Event from 8am-Midnight.
The entire street will be blocked off for this massive event. Huge street course, Pro Skaters & Surfers, Giveaways, tons of vendor, Half pipe, Live Art, Live bands, etc. Best Part is it's all free!

The mural I'm painting will be sold through a silent auction during the event. Proceeds will go directly to Grind for Life.
"Grind For Life is an organization that provide financial assistance to cancer patients and their families when traveling long distances to doctors and hospitals. In addition, we educate and inspire these patients and families concerning cancer survival and recovery."
I have some crazy ideas for this painting and a good amount of time to work on it. Stop by and say hello & place a bid for a good cause.

"Concrete Jungle" Recap

Last Friday an event called Concrete Jungle was held in Key Biscayne, Fl. Concrete Jungle brought people of all races and ages together for one purpose. To raise awareness and funds for Haiti.
Several reggae/hiphop/ groove/funk musicians came out for the event. Sekajipo & his whole band had the people dancing and moving to the groove. LaGuardia rapped with some heartfelt & powerful lyrics. Miami's break dance crew came out and tore up the floor. Even a mini Micheal Jackson hopped up on stage outta nowhere.I painted for several hours. The 6x4ft mural was used to raise money for kids in Haiti. Specifically to get mattress covers for them to prevent the spread of disease. I used an image of an actual Haitian kid but placed him on the top of a dozen mattresses. Just like the princess & the pea and just as happy as can be. Be grateful for what you have.Such a fun night. Thanks to Keith Case for putting the whole thing together for a great cause! Also Thanks to Sam Albanese for taking some great photos.

Live Mural Painting.

I have 3 live murals coming up all within 30days and each one to raise money for a great cause. These events are always a great time with so much going on and new people to met. The first of the three murals I'll be painting starts this Friday. Oct. 8, 2010 in Key Biscayne, FL

I'll be painting a 6x4 mural to raise money for Haiti- Specifically for plastic covers on mattresses for children. In the hundreds of orphanages within Haiti, they continuously have to use old, overused, stained mattresses for the children. They need a way to keep to mattresses clean and free of diseases. This mural will be auctioned of in hopes to raise enough money to help several orphanages in this situation.
Some great hiphop & reggae music, food, drinks, and live art : all for Haiti.

Monsters Under My Bed.

Finished up a new small piece for a Bear&Bird Gallery "Monster's Under My Bed" group show. Over 200 works based on Childhood fears.

The piece I did is a “Landstrider” from a fantasy film directed by The Muppets co-creators Henson and Frank Oz. “Jim Henson has always been a huge inspiration to me,” Maxcy reveals. “He continually pushed the boundaries of creativity. But The Dark Crystal, one of his films from 1982, always creeped me out. It's pretty creepy when movies make creatures and puppets look realistic. This creature was called a Landstrider. Many of the characters in that film scared me when I was younger and to this day, I still have a hard time sitting through it.” - CityLink Magazine

Gone Fishin'

Recently I was in Northern Florida. My buddy asked if I wanted to go fishing. I haven't gone fishing since I was about 15years old, but it sounded like a great idea! I dont like killing animals and I don't consider myself a redneck by any means, but waking-up at 9am to go out in some secluded wetlands was just amazing! No one around, just blue skies, fish, birds, dolphins, and other wildlife. It's nice to take a break from our busy lives for a minute.

We ended up catching four fish that day. I caught two spotted trout myself but let one go because he was too small & he told me he missed his mom.

"The End of the War"

Every now and then I get a new fun yet challenging commission. This one tops them all! A good friend of mine Matt Katsolis called me a month ago and commissioned an epic war painting. Basically an amazing idea that turned into more then anyone bargained for. Especially his wife, Jen.

This is the exact email I received for this piece:
"The mayor of sausage town at his podium speaking to his people in a jubilant manner declaring the end of the 26 year war against the pickle people. Yay peace in the land! Banners waving throughout. Copper (his dog) is the sausage president in a bad sausage costume."
Several emails later an entire event was planned around the surprise unveiling of this piece. Complete with sausage & pickle hor dourves'. the pictures speak for themselves...

The final piece, that will eventually become a 3 part series...

The show turned out to be a lot of fun. Thanks to all my friends & new friends who came out. Matt Butcher took the stage at 7:30. Playing some heart felt tunes with his acoustic guitar & harmonica. Coffee was brewing, cupcakes &coffee ice cream were being eaten, and discussions of art were going on. Thanks again for all the support.

I just got back from a little road trip/vacation. Me and my buddy Mike decided to travel North to hang with family & friends. Ate good food, rode our bikes a lot, found turles.snakes.gators, had pool parties, watched movies, stayed out late! It was a enjoyable and funfilled trip full of good friends. Enjoy life more often with good friends.

New commision.

Been pretty busy lately. I've gotten several commisions recently and on top of that I got a solo show coming up in mid August. More on that soon.

Here is a commision piece I just finished up today. This one was for my buddy Tiago & his wife. An amazing Brazilian born musician who currently resides in New York. He plays bass in the band Braddigan, guitar in the band Zilero, and several other bands. The idea was to capture the idea & feeling when just him and his wife, Daisy, musically perform together. Together they make some amazing and heartfelt tunes.

Premiere & Live painting a success.

I was asked to do a live painting during the South Florida premiere of the film "180 degrees South." The painting would be auctioned off at the end of the night with 100% of the proceeds going to earthquake victims of Chile. With only a couple hours to paint I got to the event early and set-up. A massive outdoor screen was inflated right on the beach for all to see. Another indoor screen was erected with a couple dozen sponsored booths and food vendors ready for the crowd.
About 7pm hundreds of people started gathering. The large assortment of varies people grabbed a friend, some food, a beer, and found their spots for the film. I continued to paint at the Jedidiah booth during the film as several kids watched me, all the while asking every art question possible. The painting, inspired by the amazing film, sold at the end of the night. The event was a huge turn out overall and a great night that brought a community of unique individuals together for a common good.

I've been working with a film production company out of LA off & on for a project with Red Bull. It's basically for a TV show and some internet shorts. Everytime we travel and shot footage theres always something interesting. Just random amazing locations and extremly interesting & entertaining people. Here are a few pictures I took while working with them this past weekend.
The shot below was taken on loction in a massive worn down warehouse we were in. I really enjoyed all the little hidden & almost spooky areas this place had to offer.

9 days in Colorado

Between our everyday busy lives there is always time to help others.

Looking through 500+ photos it's hard to tell where to start. Two weeks before we left for Colorado my wife & I were really itching to go somewhere and help others. We asked several people for suggestions for new places that could really use our help through art and medical help. Finally our good friend Brad Corrigan suggested a inner city community of 1500 people within Denver, CO. We said great and booked our plane tickets.

Since we both had never been to Colorado we flew out two days earlier to enjoy the Rocky Mountains. Hiking, climbing, chasing elk, playing in the snow, etc. It was amazing.

After our mini vacation we arrived at the Sun Valley Youth Center. The community is made of of mainly housing projects with 1500 people living there. Out numbering the adults , 1000 of them are kids. All hours of the day kids were outside throughout the neighborhood. The average annual household income is only $7,500. We worked & slept within the community. Being there non-stop we experienced the area on a daily basis. The area, people, & community are in need of support.

The first day we arrived I started on a mural for the Youth Center. I had a few sketches that incorporated a child like feeling of imagination. After showing several kids and volunteers the idea, I started painting. The process took a few hours each day for 3 days. Several of the kids got involved filling in "their part" of the wall and were loving every minute of it.

As long as the mural keeps the kids smiling as they walk by it and sparks their imagination to dream and be creative... it was & will continue to be a success.
During the rest of the week I organized several interesting kids games outside. We ran around, threw water balloons, raced, climbed trees, drew pictures, and just had an exhausting good time.
The second to last day at the Center a huge event was to be held. The "Day of Light" within Sun Valley. There was 3 main rotations through out the day:

-A group of professional and high school lacrosse players came out to help & teach the kids lacrosse. Several kids got to keep the sticks.

-My wife & I organized a art activity where kids got to decorate a small figure and let us know what they wanted to be when they grew up. Myself & two other volunteers also painted faces.

-Musicians, Ray, Paul, & Tiago, ran a drum class. The kids loved making music with various drums and instruments.

A group of girls who lived within the community who were originally from Africa also taught us how to dance. A conga line started soon after. The day ended with Braddigan playing a full set of songs for Sun Valley. Professional hip hop artist "Age" also joined the performance.
I hope the kids and families of Sun Valley had as good of a week as we did. All it takes is one person to have an idea... and it can turn into an amazing experience for everyone. Sharing your talents and love with others is an overwhelming feeling.
